THE LARGEST CLUB IN BRITAIN

Penrith Swimming Club which with a record membership of 1,140 in 1933 was noted as the most flourishing natatory institution in the country.
Founded in July 1881, the club reached the pinnacle of success which must have been undreamt of by its founders. Twenty-four youthful enthusiasts, some of whom could barely swim, launched Penrith Swimming Club on its adventurous voyage. Half a century later the Club claims the bold title of the largest Swimming Club not only in British Isles but the World!
